Friends, thank you for hearing our plea and coming to the shelter to adopt a deserving pet. You are providing a second chance and new life for abused, abandoned, and forgotten pets. As you know, the shelter is overflowing with precious dogs and cats. Every cage is full, with more arriving daily. We have a limited amount of room and their lives depend on you adopting them. If you do not find a pet that suits your family, revisit the shelter daily and you will surely find a friend for life. These pets are starved for love and attention and will reward you with a lifetime of love and devotion. They only want someone to love and care for them and to feel valued as a family member. Spay/neuter is included in the modest adoption fee. To see pictures and descriptions of many of our pets, please go to Dyerhumane.org and click on Animals or go to petfinder.com and type in 38024 zip code. Specify whether you are looking for a dog or cat.

'Roscoe' and 'Maggie' are mother and son Scottish terrier/schnauzer mix. Scottish terriers are also known as Aberdeen terriers because they were most favored in the Aberdeen area. They originated in Scotland in the 1800s and came to America in 1883. The most well-known Scotty in America was Fala, Franklin Roosevelt's dog, who was his constant companion in life and buried at his side in death. 'Baby' is a gorgeous white Great Pyrenees/lab mix and is four months old. When nomadic shepherds brought their sheep to the Pyrenees Mountains around 3000 B.C, their flock guardian dogs formed the basis of the Great Pyrenees breed. In medieval France, the Pyrenees became a formidable fortress guard and in 1675 was decreed the "Royal Dog of France" The first documented Pyrenees came to America with General Lafayette in 1824. The Great Pyrenees received AKC recognition in 1933. They are devoted to their family and are calm, well-mannered dogs. They are very gentle with family and children but are not good off leash and may wander away.

'Franklin' is a handsome gray and white cat who would make a wonderful addition to any family of cat lovers. Please stop by The Pet Stop any day of the week to see a selection of our cats and kittens.
