He was a retired farmer, a Catholic and a Navy veteran.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Tiptonville chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at 5:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Dorton of Samburg and Lee Ann Thompson of Hornbeak; two sons, Phillip Thompson Sr. and Leon Thompson, both of Samburg; four sisters, Mary Anne Gunaka of Reno, Nev., Patricia Graham and Diane Gunaka, both of Chicago, Ill. and Sandy Wedgeworth of Sauk Villiage, Ill.; two brothers, Theordore Gunaka Jr. of Tinkley Park, Ill. and Ronald Gunaka of Midlothian, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Thompson Gunaka; his parents, Theodore and Anna Gunaka; and a sister, Carol Locascio.
Pallbearers will be Michael Whitehead, Roger Cook, Andy Nelson, Paul Crowell Jr., Robin Ray and Anthony Whitson.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to Shriner's Temple-Transportation Div., Memphis, TN.
