Outage planned midnight Saturday

Friday, June 13, 2008
About 1,650 Newbern Electric System and Gibson Electric Membership Corp. customers in the Newbern, Trimble, Churchton, and Maxie communities will experience an outage around midnight on Saturday, June 14. The outage is needed to allow Newbern Electric to complete work that was started during the planned outage that occurred about two weeks ago. The work is being performed at the jointly owned Newbern substation and is expected to last about two hours.

Newbern utility bookkeeper Rosalind Green said the power outage is to complete the replacement of switches on a Newbern Electric System substation in the city's industrial park.

Gibson EMC operations chief Barry Smith says service will be restored as quickly as possible. "We perform our work without outages whenever possible," he says, "but in this case an outage will be required." Gibson EMC apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this planned outage will cause its customers.
