Nearly 30 students at Dyersburg Intermediate School were recently honored with Presidential Education Awards. Each year, the awards are granted by the president and U.S. secretary of education for achievement and hard work in meeting challenging standards of excellence. To achieve this award at DIS, students must maintain a 90 average during their fourth- and fifth-grade years and score above the 85th percentile on their reading or math TCAP tests. Begun in 1983, the Presidential Education Awards Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with the National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals.
