Lake County General Sessions Judge Danny Goodman submitted his petition on Monday to election officers in Tiptonville and Dyersburg. Dyer County General Sessions Judge Tony Childress filed his petition on Friday. Dyersburg attorney Mark Hayes filed his petition on June 11.
The three are running for the eight-year term opened by the appointment on Thursday to the Tennessee Court of Appeals of former chancery court judge Steve Stafford.
Stafford had served as judge since 1993.
Applicants have until noon on Wednesday, June 18 to file a petition.
The State Gazette incorrectly reported on Sunday the deadline was last Friday.
The Dyer County Election Commission is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday to announce the slate of candidates.
The deadline for applicants to withdraw from the race and remove their name from the ballot is noon on Friday, June 20.
The election office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I am confused........ I know that the Chancery judgeship is an elective position, but I read something about Gov. Bredesen appointing someone to the vacancy........... August is a short time away....... When will the winner of the election take office???????????????
