Wilmer Wilkins Elgin, 97, of Newbern, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, earning the rank of sergeant and serving with the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at RoEllen Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he was a member and elder, with the Rev. Stacey Rector and the Rev. Karen Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Newbern.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. today at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Betsy Jones and husband, Ronald, of Dyersburg; a son, Mac Elgin and wife, Peggy, of Prattville, Ala.; four grandsons, Brandon Jones and wife, Christy, Jason Jones, Scott Elgin and Stephanie Bennett; and four great-grandchildren, Maggie Jones, Anna Jones, Shelbeigh Bennett and Weston Stone.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Irene McDowell Elgin; his parents, Jim and Mellie Tindell Elgin; two sisters, Opal Dunahoo and Clara Carter; and three brothers, Finis Elgin, James Elgin and Jewell Elgin.
Pallbearers will be Steven Agee, Mike Rose, Steve Rose, Jim Hall, Bobby Vaughn and James Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Phyllis Willis, Deborah Thomas, Patti Carhart, Donna Hastings and Sherry Vaughn.
Regina Jones Freeman, 47, of Friendship, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at her residence.
She was a member of Christ the King Church.
A memorial service was held June 5 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Wilson and Bro. Tommy Warner officiating.
Survivors include a daughter, Chasidy Danielle Uselton of Friendship; a son, Joshua Logan Anderson of Clarksville; a brother, Billy Jones of Friendship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Lou Ella Jones; and four brothers, Richard Wilkerson, George Jones, Delbert Jones and Dennis Jones.
