'Top 10' wanted in Newbern shooting turns self in

Monday, June 23, 2008
The man wanted on an attempted first-degree murder for a March shooting in Newbern turned himself in today to authorities in Memphis.

Robert Earl Hall, 23, was sought by the Newbern Police Department for one count of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.

Hall is accused of busting into a residence at 635 Jones Street shortly after midnight, where he shot the owner of the home in the leg, and fired two more rounds into a bedroom where there was another resident. When Hall left the house, he stole a purse and used one of the victim's credit cards the next morning the TBI said.

The suspect's father, Robert E. Hall Sr. of Memphis, said his son turned himself in "to clear his name."

The senior Hall said he walked his son to the Memphis Police central station at 201 Poplar this morning, where he turned himself in.

"Here he is all most wanted and everything and not a policeman there recognized him," said the elder Hall.

A TBI agent was called by Hall Sr. before his son turned himself in to assure a smooth handoff.

"He was scared when they called him 'armed and dangerous' said Halls Sr. "He wasn't armed and he's not dangerous."

If anyone is wondering what shrl105 is referring to it was in the thursday state gazette June 19 on page 4. " Three charges against Charles Eddie Smith, 55 were not prosecuted because smith had assisted the district attorneys office in several cases." This man was charged with burglay of a motor vehicle, theft of property, and attempted theft of property in excess of 1,000.00 dollars. He is accused of breaking into Wayde Jacksonn's van. taking two garage door openers and attemting to take two trailers on may 18, 2006. Here it is 2008 and god only knows what he's been up to since. Now he can just do what he wants as usual. Not to mention he was considered a credible witness against someone last year. Oh, I forgot he was doing his "job". If mr. Hall wants to clear his name he should have came on back to dyersburg I'm sure they'll find something for him to do.How in the world can anyone lay down at night and sleep when the criminals are given the ok to break in peoples businesses. He done the crime but lucky for him he don't have to do the time!Wade Jackson works hard and he's a law abiding citizen and I think the justice system failed him. I just hope someone is watching this man's activities cause he ain't through. You can't say the police didn't do their job. This goes much higher than the police that are risking their lives trying catch people like this. They arrest them and the D.A. refuses to prosecute. I was just shocked when I read it!

Mr. Hall was scared? I just wonder if the owner of that home was scared when Mr. Hall started shooting with his MAGIC finger. Considering he wasn't armed. If only the owner had known that he was not armed nor dangerous, he could have prevented him from also stealing from them.

He isnt dangerous but he opened a door and shot into a house. He had no idea who all could have been in that house and could have killed a child. Not armed! HAHA! What did he shoot him with the? I BB gun or water pistol. Give me a freaking break. He turned himself in cause he knew he was BUSTED. What an idiot.

Well if he has done some work for our district attorney like Edward Smith , he will let him go or if he goes to church with our district attorney that will be the end of it. We need to vote people like this out when it comes to election time.

What do you want to bet they reduce the charge to conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and he gets out on bond. Seems to be the trend of the D'Burg court these days.

As to: "He was scared when they called him 'armed and dangerous' said Halls Sr. "He wasn't armed and he's not dangerous."

I would just like to say that I am sure his victims were utterly terrified and WOULD consider him dangerous as he:

"shot the owner of the home in the leg, and fired two more rounds into a bedroom where there was another resident. When Hall left the house, he stole a purse and used one of the victim's credit cards the next morning"
