| David Hayes explains the concept behind the Dyersburg-Dyer County Photography Club to 23 people who recently attended the organizational meeting at the Professional Development Center in Downtown Dyersburg. |
The Dyersburg-Dyer County Photography Club will hold its first regular meeting at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 17, at the Professional Development Center, in downtown Dyersburg.
An initial planning meeting was held recently at the PDC, with Security Bank president David Hayes leading the discussion about plans for the club.
Hayes and professional photographer Jeff Roush told potential club members that the club's purpose will be to join local photographers together and help area organizations like the Dyer County Historical Society preserve much of the history of the county.
"I have spoken with Allen Hester of the Chamber of Commerce and he has wall space available in the Lannom Center that would be a great place to display photos of scenes from Dyer County," Hayes said. "I can see us sponsoring a local contest that may be called, 'Shoot Dyer County' where the theme might be people, places and events that reflect the lives of those living here."
The planning meeting was attended by 23 people with a wide range of photography skill sets and interests.
A Google group has been established for the members of the photography club to allow club members with e-mail accounts to communicate electronically as questions arise and friendships develop.
The goal is to grow the club from the original 23 to a group of 50 or more with regular monthly meetings.
Anyone interested in learning more or joining this club is invited to attend the July meeting. Participants are asked to bring a few samples of their photography, either prints or media that can be displayed on a video screen.

Does anyone know if this club is for professional photograpers and/or amateurs?
If I attend the July 17 meeting, it will include amateurs. How about you?
