Attempted burglary of jewelry store

Dyersburg Police are searching for the suspect or suspects involved in the break-in early Thursday at the Dyersburg Mall. The protective metal curtain at the Zales Jewelry store was cut, but as the perpetrator reached to the counter about 4 a.m., a motion alarm was set off. The suspects are thought to have gained entry to the mall initially by attempting to enter the ceiling above the First South ATM, which is open 24 hours a day. The lower part of the glass outer door to the space of the former Fun Tunnel near the mall's east entrance was busted, then the metal curtain was cut from the inside to access the mall interior. Police are asking anyone with information on the break-in and attempted burglary to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 288-7679 or CrimeStoppers at 285-TIPS.

timay76- I'm not sure that it was an inside job, just a thought, however to say that an employee has access to everything is very true but had they just taken anything then indeed they would be the first suspect don't you think since inventory is done on the merchandise? I'm with Jeramy on this one either Santa or the Easter bunny.

I see the elderly at the mall everyday casing the joint. Perhaps they should look into them. I bet some older gentleman scaled into the ceiling and cut the gate. Yup..it was those crafty older folks. You just think they are walking for health they are really looking for weaknesses in the security.

Can anyone tell me why someone who is on the "inside" would go through so much trouble to pull off this robbery....I mean robbery attempt. Employees have access to jewelry, clearance, and back supply on a daily basis. I know the guys up there and am not sure that any of them are proficient in scaling cealings or bolt cutting! This robbery attempt was lame and to even throw out that it could have been an inside job is ridiculous. The person who did this is "simple" and should definitely not quit their day job. Everyone knows that the good jewelry isn't even by the gate. What were they trying to do...reach in and get a mother's day locket? Go for the diamonds baby!!! The good ones are over against the opposite wall. If you're gonna take a chance of going to jail, take the good stuff. Don't go for the Black Hills Gold or the Bulova!!! It seems like to me, that maybe someone was out on say a paper route and drove by the back of the mall and realized that their anniversary was today and didn't have a gift. Or maybe,,,just maybe it was a revenge robbery due to the late payments and surcharges that Zales places on it's customers....I know, maybe someone hates the manager or that old guy up there in the suspenders! Maybe...it was an inside job and the person was so stupid that they didn't realize that their own store had an alarm system and they got scared and ran out and jumped in their PT Cruiser and left! Who knows....but I can definitely say that I agree with the comment "Shouldn't police patrol around there at this time!" I know a couple of officers that have a stake in Zales during business hours so I think they should show loyalty and visit when the doors are closed too! To Angie...I say, Keep the head up!!! Everything will be alright!!

Oh my, I am confused. You teach me a word and then get irritated when I use it. But, as you said, this is about the meaning of 'inside job', not duh. Opps. I said it again. Sorry. I think the perpetrators will be caught soon. They are so (that word I'm not supposed to use) and not professional at all. They failed at entering through the ceiling, broke into the fun tunnel that isn't even there any more and then set of the alarm. D*H!

This is not a rap on DPD, but you would think at around 4am in the morning that there would be somebody on patrol in that area....after all, it takes quite some time to go thru the ceiling and cut thru the protective metal curtain...I am surprised that there wasn't an alarm to go off once the metal curtain was cut...just a thought!!!

Yes we should stay on the subject. I get so mad at people who get off on other subjects and here I am doing it. I feel so duh. I don't think the perpetrator worked at the jewelry store. They didn't know about the motion alarm or were to duh to work around it. I think they are too duh to get a real job anywhere and are probably on drugs. Drugs are at the root of so much crime. Oh I'm getting off the inside job again. My Duh!

Thank you Harley. You are a very nice person and thank you for telling me about the word Duh. I never use the words it means because those 2 words do offend some people I know but if I say Hey Duh they won't be offended because if they are like me they won't know what it means. Are you a blond too? If so maybe one of us should go back to red. Is this board big enough for 2 blondes? Ha Ha. That's a funny, Duh. Some people say blondes are duh but I don't think so. I think blondes just make some men act duh.

dburg_blondie- Yes an inside job, is a job where you work on the inside, however the inside job I am referring to is when someone who works there probably had a hand in it somehow, whether it was to tell them when do it, how to do it, where to enter the building etc., I'm not trying to be mean here but you give true meaning to "blondie".

HarleyO, an inside job means DUH? Well what does DUH mean for crying out loud? An inside job means working inside. My 2nd husband was a painter and when it rained he always wanted an inside job. Oh it will be wonderful if the atm snapped a picture of the perpetrator.
