Water splashes onto a dry soybean field in western Dyer County on Sunday as the region's near-drought conditions continue.
Precipitation in Dyer County is entering the abnormally dry state of drought analysis, said a report posted Sunday on the U.S. Drought Monitor Web site.

The total rainfall recorded in Dyersburg for June has been .22 inches -- 1.58 less than normal.

The last appreciable measures of rain occurred during a four-day event from May 24-28, which left just over three inches of water on fields of corn, soybeans, sorghum and other row crops vital to the local economy.

Counties in West Tennessee already noted as abnormally dry include Shelby, Tipton and a swath of Lauderdale County that touches southwest Dyer County.

Forecasts for the next week continue the sparse precipitation, with isolated chances of rain rising to only 30 percent on the Independence Day holiday. A 40 percent chance of thunderstorms is predicted for July 6.

Kinda sad all the rain and water in the northern part of the Miss River and we're short on rain down here. We just need to be careful what and how we ask for what we need/want.

Prayer will bring rain? How long you need to pray? till the crops are all burned up, then shrug your shoulders and say it must be God's will? Hmmmm.......
