City cases bound over

Tuesday, July 8, 2008
A Dyersburg man faces a possible indictment on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, criminal impersonation and driving on an expired license.

Chad L.J. Wells, 30, 2105 N. St. John Ave., Apartment E25, waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Dyersburg city court on June 27. The charges were bound over to a grand jury's consideration.

Dyersburg Police suspected Wells was driving while intoxicated and stopped him June 21 on Broadway Avenue. Police found a large bag of marijuana tucked into the crotch of a passenger's pants. Wells, who initially identified himself as Billy Doyle Wells, was arrested on the drug charge due to the drugs being transported in his vehicle. The passenger told police the marijuana belonged to Wells and that Wells told him to hide the drugs because the officers wouldn't search a passenger.

In other recent city court action:

* Teresa Reid, 27, 1010 Upper Finley Road, waived her right Tuesday, July 1, to a preliminary hearing on a charge of forgery. She is accused of writing and cashing checks on the account of Amanda Tice without her permission on June 10.

* Brandon Pshone Bibbs, 23, 1525 Keats St., waived his right for a preliminary hearing Monday, June 30, on charges of simple possession of marijuana and driving on a revoked license. He was stopped June 16 on Lake Road and police reportedly found a bag containing about 8 grams of a leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana.
