Carmen Dennison, a resident of the 7000 block of Highway 78, was flown by helicopter to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis after the aircraft landed at Spring Hill Baptist Church.
Dennison was reportedly working on the Ford 8N model tractor when it rolled over him, dragging a tiller implement that was attached to the unengaged power take-off across the fallen man.
A passing motorist called the Tennessee Highway Patrol's *THP cellphone emergency line at 8:49 p.m. about the accident, which went to the agency's Memphis dispatchers.
A trooper from Obion County was alerted to respond to the accident.
The Dyer County Sheriff's Department was not called about the accident until a relative of the injured man at the scene of the accident called 911, 11 minutes later, at 9 p.m.
A Dyersburg Regional Medical Center ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and minutes later a landing plan was arranged for the Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter at the church parking lot.
