An expedition on the Forked Deer River revealed options for ecotourism and future recreational opportunities as a group of locals examined the river environment on Saturday. John Lannom, Randall?Carmack, Frank Salowitz, Peter Brown, Earl Willoughby Jr., Chris Rimel, Bart Williams, Danny and Evan Walden and Jim Stark (in kayak) approach the South Main Street bridge. Canoeist Jack Ruskin of Clarksdale, Miss. brought his 40-foot craft to lead the endeavor. The group put in at the Tigrett Wildlife Management Area and paddled through downtown Dyersburg before exiting near the U.S. Highway 51 Bypass bridges.
