A-list actress has speeding ticket from '93 in county; never paid

Sunday, August 17, 2008
Hollywood actress Ashley Judd has never paid the fine for a speeding ticket she received in Dyer County in 1993.

Judd was stopped at 4:25 p.m. June 6 on I-155 around mile marker 6, after Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Robert Moore's radar clocked Judd's black Mercedes 300CE coupe zipping along at 87 mph in the 65-mph zone. She was passing another vehicle when radar tracked her at 22 mph over the speed limit.

"She asked me if I knew who she was," laughed Moore, recalling the stop. "I said it really didn't matter."

Judd told Moore the car was a recent gift from her mother, country singer Naomi Judd, and she was on her way to her Malibu, Calif. home.

Since Tennessee and California in 1993 had no reciprocity agreement for motor vehicle violations, Moore held Judd's driver's license to assure she either appeared in court or paid the $125 fine. The actress did neither. The license remains held.

Judd was relatively unknown at the time, but had started acting the month before in the first season of the NBC television series 'Sisters.'

Judd's publicist did not return calls seeking comment on the matter.

If we need to serve a warrant on her...I will gladly volunteer. Just call ahead and tell her I'm coming!

Are you saying that just because she is an actress she should be allowed to drive 22 miles per hour above the posted speed limit? Who else would you want to exempt from obeying the law..politicians, the weather channel meteorologists, football players, business owners?

I think that Trooper Moore did the right thing. Hopefully, she will speed through the county again and be arrested for failure to appear on the first speeding charge.

No I am also very proud of Mr.Moore. I meant no harm in the comment. Wow, you must rally know him or are you him? My my please don't take it personal. I wish he would stop some of the others who speed around thinking they are above the law...

blondy30:

What school did you attend? And what does "prolly" mean? Are you trying to say "probably"? Because that is the proper spelling of the word "probably" as well as the proper way to pronounce it!

Shi Don Yu- In defense of Blondy30, as we all know this is a society of text messaging, obviously that is something you know nothing about. But prolly is short for probably when texting. Just thought I would share that with you.

I fully agree with blondy30, but I am not bitter.

I once worked for the THP as a dispatcher in Nashville. Late for work one day I got pulled over for speeding. I told the trooper I worked for the Highway Patrol. He said "I do too" and wrote me a ticket. Ha, it's funny NOW.

She should have to pay the same way that any other person would have to. As my daddy always said she puts her britches on the same as everyone else. Just because she is famous does not amount to a hill of beans.

i think they should hire dog the bounty hunter

Enough already! I'll pay the ticket for her. I'm sure she'll reward me with a kiss and an autograph.

Prolly?????? Is that a scholastic word?

Sell the drivers license on e-bay....then pay off the ticket with the $$!

You reckon Colorado would extradite Ashley Judd to Tennessee? I seen her at the DNC Tuesday night, on TV.

If she attended the dumocrat convention, she is also guilty of being arrogant, and out of touch with reality.

What prompted this to be news, 15 years later?
