Woman who was part of brawl pleads guilty

Wednesday, August 20, 2008
A Dyersburg woman pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge Monday in Dyer County General Sessions Court.

Jennifer Dowdy, 1015 Lipford Circle, was sentenced to 30 days, but the sentence was suspended to 24 hours in jail. The remainder of the sentence will be served on supervised probation.

Dowdy was one of four adults arrested after a July 19 brawl on Lovejoy Road in Finley. Two more women -- Sherry Lee, 2945 Lovejoy Road, and Shelia Canada, 1345 Lovejoy Road -- are scheduled to appear Sept. 8 in general sessions court on disorderly conduct charges.

The fourth person -- Phillip Lynn Dorse, 31, 1345 Lovejoy Road -- was indicted last week on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault. He is accused of using an aluminum baseball bat to attack Michael Hipps, who was hit in the chest while trying to disarm Dorse; Gilberto Charcas, who was flown to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis with a life-threatening head injury; and William Tolley, who had red marks and severe bruising on his arms and back. Dorse is scheduled to return to Dyer County Circuit Court on Sept. 9.
