Chamber CEO gains contract after declining Arkansas offer

Sunday, August 24, 2008
The executive board of the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously on Monday to offer chamber president and CEO Allen Hester a 10-year contract after an Arkansas economic development agency offered him its top post.

Hester accepted the contract and declined an offer from the Fayetteville (Ark.) Chamber of Commerce to become that agency's leader. (See related article on page 4A).

The package, which chamber attorney John Lannom said was absorbed within the existing budget, includes a raise, an increased vehicle allowance and increased health care benefits. Lannom declined to explain details of the package, but IRS documents filed by the chamber in 2006 note a $110,059 salary for Hester.

Also in the deal was a separate retirement account for Hester, which board members said amounted to a $150,000 sum over the tenure of the contract. The contract includes a proviso that allows Hester to collect the entire sum if he is dismissed before the contract terminates in 2018.

I wonder what the chamber president in Union City makes compared to what the Dyersburg Chamber president makes?

Ten years is a long time for a paid vacation.

Can we say underworked and overpaid?? The ole boy is making four to five times as much as the rest of the staff there and doing about one percent of the work. If you don't believe it, just ask any of the employees there. I know all the people there and the staff got NOTHING out of the deal. I wonder if John Lannom and the rest of the board members gave that any thought whatsoever? I would guess not since most of those men and women on the chamber board are wealthy individuals who most likely got to the positions that they are in the same way.

Thanks for the compliment Mr. Getter. I came home from work yesterday and read the story and comments of the successful chamber guy. For some reason I googled "road to success" and that message came up. Thanks google. I needed that.

WHO IS DOING ALL THE WORK? HERE YOU GO!!!

The population of the United States was 180 million at the time of writing, but there are 64 million over 60 years of age, leaving 116 million to do the work.

People under 21 total 59 million which leaves 57 million people to do the work.

Because of the 31 million government employees, there are only 26 million left to do the work.

Six million in the armed forces leave twenty million workers.

Deduct 17 million State, county, and city employees, and we are left with three million to do the work.

There are 2,500,000 people in hospitals, asylums, and treatment facilities leaving half a million workers.

However, 450,000 of these are bums or others who will not work, leaving 50,000 to do the work.

Now, it may interest you to know that there are 49,998 people in jail so that leaves just 2 people to do all the work, and that is you and me, and I'm getting tired of doing everything myself!
