Woman to serve 8 years for soliciting ex's murder

Wednesday, October 1, 2008
A 28-year-old woman who hired an undercover officer to kill her ex-husband pleaded guilty Tuesday in Dyer County Circuit Court.

Dottie Floyd was sentenced to eight years in prison for solicitation of first-degree murder. The McNairy County woman reportedly traveled to Dyersburg March 12 to hire Nathan Bishop, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agent posing as an assassin. Floyd reportedly paid him $200 cash and gave him 120 hydrocodone pills -- the first of three such payments.

Floyd also pleaded guilty to possessing a Schedule III controlled substance with intent to sell or distribute. She was sentenced to two years in prison, which will be served concurrently with the first sentence. She was fined $2,000, but the fine was suspended.

District Attorney General Phil Bivens said the plea agreement allows Floyd to seek a furlough to the Transitions program after serving 18 months in the Dyer County jail. If she successfully completes Transitions, she may request that the remainder of her sentence be suspended.

Floyd, however, has the option of requesting a transfer to the Tennessee Department of Correction. If she goes to prison, she will be ineligible for a furlough but could be paroled after serving at least 30 percent of her eight-year sentence.

Floyd has been incarcerated in the Dyer County jail since March 12.

Bivens said the victim, Christopher Floyd, had no objections to the plea agreement and the possibility that Dottie Floyd could be furloughed.

Dottie Floyd also faces a TennCare fraud case in Hardin County; she reportedly used her TennCare benefits to obtain the hydrocodone pills she gave to the TBI agent. Floyd is scheduled to appear in court on that case next week. Bivens said the district attorney in Hardin County expects Floyd to plead guilty and have her sentence suspended to the time she's already served.

During a preliminary hearing in Dyersburg city court earlier this year, TBI Agent Bishop testified that Floyd offered three reasons why her ex-husband needed to die.

First, he said, she was concerned about allegations that her ex-husband's cousin had molested one of her relatives.

Second, she said her ex-husband had verbally abused her.

Third, she would have received more Social Security death benefits for their children than she received from him in child-support payments.

I'll bet the fourth reason he should have been killed was because he divorced, her and didn't love her anymore .CAN YOU SAY PSYCHO? His cousin had allegations, he yelled at her , and more money than he would pay for child support. Nice real nice !

it wasnt just "allegations" of rape. HER EX ALLOWED HIS COUSIN TO RAPE HER DAUGHTER! any good mother in her right mind would want the s.o.b. killed. the only thing i would have done differently is i would have taken the pleasure of killing him myself. dottie's lawyers should have taken an insanity plea. it makes me insane just thinking about my daughter being raped. the m.f. needs his freedom, and his thingy, taken away.

Calm down...it was her ex,s nephew that did this and its not an allegation when he signed a confession to it.But wouldnt you be ashamed of it if you were the ex since they still try to hide it til this day that it happened? I think the paper said Ms. Floyd traveled to Dyersburg, but they forgot Keith Gates drove her car up there.Oh by the way hes that Mcnairy County Ex Deputy that was fired for beating his girlfriend up and pricked his side with a fork and told she stabbed him..What a man..lol

Are we losing sight of who this woman wanted KILLED. It wasn't the cousin/nephew who had allegations/confessions against him. She wanted her children's father killed. How could you ever look your children in the eyes/faces again knowing you took their father away. You're the reason why these children are hurting. Money couldn't never buy HAPPINESS or LOVE. INSANITY plea, I believe in other stories the lawyer made a request asking for an evaluation to determine her competency. The results of that must had meant she was SANE. Who drove her? Dottie knew what she was doing. Remember she's the one who talked to the TBI that night not Keith Gates.

2sides2everystory, how could you look into your children's eyes, knowing they have been abused and also knowing you did nothing to try to protect them? Hurt? What are you talknig about? And don't go and say call protective services. the only thing protective services is good for is protecting their own job!!! That place is such a grose unjustified use of taxpayers money it is unreal. please....I would have not only attepmted the same but I woul have enjoyed strangling every last bubbly breath out of the parasite's body.

dag gone i have missed this whole story.... are you telling me that she was going to have this man killed becuz he RAPED her daughter???? if this is true and she recieved 8 yrs. in prison our justice system is well we all know what it is? at least i hope you all know what our justice and political system is like!!! I am not a violent person but i would have killed him myself slowly and painfully. getting someone to kill him only proved that she is truely not a murderer or a danger to our society. she needed a better lawyer she prolly had the public defender (his or her job is to put you in jail or charge you a crapload of money in fines). Any person who is perverted enough to touch in ANY way a child ( a boy/girl under the age of 18 ) is uncomprehensable, NASTY, lack of discipline, irresponsible, perverted, bottom feeding, sorry, thier lives should not be allowed to go on and still that wouldnt take away the pain they have caused to the child they have emotionally and physically abused, used, tortured, mentally scarred and emotionally wrecked for trusting anyone in the future. There should be harsher laws involving PERVERTS!!!! who gives a rats butt if she was going to have him killed. His meeting with our good lord should have been arranged!!!

blondy30, Did you read this story? Because this woman ex did not RAPE her daughter. Maybe you should go back and read before you comment. The ex is just the one who she wanted KILLED. The person who molested her daughter is a cousin to this woman ex. So the only real reason this woman wanted this man her ex killed was for verbal abuse and she would receive more social security benefits than child support.

exresident, But knowing you took your children's father away for only your satisfaction. How wrong could you be?

myopinion2, if my children's dad (or anybody else) knew my children were being abused and did nothing to stop the abuse/abuser, I DON'T CARE WHAT NAME HE/SHE CARRIES, I WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. It would not be for my satisfaction, it would be to assure my children that they would never have to worry about the abuser/ enabler again. THAT"S not being selfish; that's protecting your children. DANG!!!:)
