Tony Adams, 412 Anchorage Ave., was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Adams had been incarcerated since his arrest in April. The sentence was suspended immediately and he was placed on supervised probation. He will be required to complete anger-management classes.
District Attorney General Phil Bivens said the sister did not wish to further prosecute her brother.
Adams had originally been charged with attempted first-degree murder. He allegedly stabbed his sister nine times on her back, arm and head on April 15 during an argument over cooking chicken. The sister asked that the charge be reduced to aggravated assault in Dyersburg city court before the case was sent to the grand jury for an indictment. At that time, she hugged her brother.
In other circuit court action that day:
* Chadwick D. Allen, 29, 5354 Blue Diamond Drive in Memphis, pleaded guilty to possessing more than half a gram of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver. He received an eight-year sentence that was suspended to a year in jail, followed by seven years of supervised probation. He also was fined $2,000.
* Kenneth Allen Childress, 25, 5513 Lenox-Nauvoo Road, pleaded guilty to felony failure to appear. He was accused of failing to return to jail after being discharged from a drug rehabilitation program on Feb. 25. He was sentenced to two years in prison and must serve that time after completing his previous sentences.
* Kevin O. Hinnant Jr., 20, 56 Connell St. in Tigrett, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing cocaine with intent to sell. One of those counts was for more than half a gram of cocaine; the other two were for amounts less than half a gram. Hinnant was sentenced to eight years in prison on the first count and three years in prison of each of the remaining counts. The last two sentences are to be served concurrently with each other but consecutively with the first, giving him an effective sentence of 11 years. Hinnant also was fined $2,000 in each count, with the fine suspended for the last two.
As part of Hinnant's plea agreement, the district attorney's office dismissed additional charges of simple possession of marijuana and two counts of criminal trespassing. Another indictment, which included charges of possessing more than half a gram of cocaine with intent to sell, possessing more than half an ounce of marijuana with intent to sell and possessing drug paraphernalia, was dismissed because the district attorney's office had some question about the ownership of the drugs.
* Shelby Blake Junior, 27, 2700 Valley Road, pleaded guilty to evading arrest in a motor vehicle. A related charge of third offense driving with a revoked license was dismissed. Junior was sentenced to a year in prison and will serve that sentence consecutively to a parole revocation.
* Creed D. King, 18, 327 Sellars, entered a best interest plea to an aggravated assault charge. He was given a three-year sentence that was suspended to 90 days in jail. He will be on supervised probation for the remainder of the sentence. He was ordered to pay $214.63 to the victim, $5,735.93 to the Tennessee Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund and $698 in court costs. He is forbidden to have any contact with the victim.
Assistant Public Defender Tod Taylor said King was trying to stop a fight when he was grabbed by the throat and he hit his attacker in self defense. The victim reportedly received broken bones underneath and around his eye.
* Jason McIntyre, 19, 1514 Wheeler St., pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated burglary. In each count, he was sentenced to six months in jail, followed by four years in a community corrections program. The sentences are to be served concurrently. He was ordered to pay restitution of $650, $500 and $250 to three separate Newbern residents whose homes were burglarized last spring. He also was ordered to pay $23.50 to Hasting's Books, Music and Video, where he reportedly sold items he'd stolen in a fourth burglary.
Dismissed were three counts of theft of property less than $500 and one count of theft of property in excess of $500.
Judge Lee Moore warned McIntyre that breaking into people's homes is "a good way to get killed." Moore said he would accept the plea agreement against his better judgment. He said the sentence is light, considering all King is accused of doing.
Bivens said these are McIntyre's first felonies as an adult.
McIntyre told the judge that he was stealing to pay his share of the rent. He said he couldn't read or write well and had trouble getting a job.
* Joey McMillen, address unavailable, was granted pretrial diversion for two counts of theft of property in excess of $500. He was placed on supervised probation for two years and ordered to pay $1,226 restitution and $899 in court costs.

He pleaded guilty to fraudulent use of another credit card belonging to the same relative with the charges amounting to more than $500. He was sentenced to a year in jail, followed by another year in a community corrections program. He was ordered to pay $819.16 restitution to Bank of America.

He pleaded guilty to felony failure to appear and was sentenced to a year in a community corrections program.
All of the sentences are to be served concurrently with the exception of the last one. The failure to appear sentence is to be served consecutively.
* Kevin Tipps, 24, 1231 Speedway, pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud. He is to be sentenced at 1 p.m. Nov. 3.
The district attorney's office announced Sept. 16 that it would not prosecute Cecilia Patton, 39, 1030 Tibbs St., for filing a false police report. Bivens said her attorney, Danny Goodman, had convinced him that the prosecution would not win the case.
On Sept. 15, Katius Williams, 22, 630 E. Thomas, pleaded guilty to selling more than half a gram of cocaine and possessing more than half an ounce of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver. On the first charge, he was sentenced to a year in jail, followed by seven years in a community corrections program. He was fined $2,000.
On the second charge, he was sentenced to two years in a community corrections program and given a suspended fine of $2,000.
The first sentence is to be served concurrently with a probation violation on an aggravated burglary charge but consecutively with the second sentence.

A big DITTO goes out to "speaking out" and "DMASE". You two readers have it spot on, particularly "speaking out". But, as usual, every voter has a sickness called short term memory and we will continue to re-elect some of these people everyone is complaining about.

Sorry, getter-done, but you can not mandate education. Everyone has a right to be willfully ignorant, it seems that it may be the only right the patriot act didn't take away from us.
How many times will Judge Moore accept a plea deal "against his better judgement?" It looks like his judgement needs checking because "Make A Deal" Phil is getting whatever he wants in the court system! Lets start getting tough on crime and handling these cases even if it requires a little work to take the case to trial.
getter-done:~I agree with you 100% that when a person admits the reason they are breaking the law is because they can not read nor write well then part of their sentence should be to go to literacy classes, and show proof of participating in these classes. Maybe make them write, and then read to the court an essay they have written about why it is a good idea to get an education, and how stealing not only hurts the ones that do, but hurts the victims.
I know there are hundreds of people like McIntyre.s. When a 19 year tells judge lee moore , he steals to pay his half of the rent because he can only write and read a little. Wow DOUBLE Whammy!!!!! judge should say, and you will get your GED in a reasonable time. We all see them walk the streets. threatening people. pants below .much below there bottom. walking a crazy slow way as if i,am somebody talking on cell phones using VILE, VILE words. It takes a lot of extra energy to trug those pants and stride like they are on out of control skate,s, get realjudge moore and make them get an education, instead of holding out your your hand for your check!!!!!!!!!! Say what you mean and back it up with the law and make a difference in there live,s. I,am disgusted with crime, and you should be also!!!!!!!!!!!
