William E. "Mr. Bill" Thorpe, 83, of Newbern, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at his residence.
He was a retired truck driver, lineman and school bus driver for the Dyer County School System, a U.S. Army veteran and past president of the Newbern Lions Club.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Bro. Wilford Mobley officiating. Burial will be in Cobbs Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeak.
The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Cobb Thorpe of Newbern; two daughters, Sonya June Martin of Newbern and Kasanda Spicer of White House; two sons, Johnny Ray Thompson of Dover and William Franklin Thorpe of Newbern; a sister, Myrtle Lester of Rives; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Mae Brockwell; his parents, William Leslie Thorpe and Effie Myrtle Thorpe; and a sister, Flora Christine May.
Pallbearers will be Alex Webb, Frankie Webb, Jimmy Floyd, Darrell Baty, Matthew Douglas and Cory Jackson.
