Dyer County voters head to polls for Election Day

This Election Day will see one of the most hard fought presidential elections in the modern history of the United States.

Also, here in Dyer County, we have a race for the United States Senate seat held by Sen. Lamar Alexander, who is running for re-election. Alexander's main opposition comes from Democratic nominee Robert Tuke.

In addition, the battle for the 77th District House of Representatives seat is being waged between Republican Bill Sanderson and Democrat Judy Barker. They are competing for retiring Democrat Philip Pinion's seat. Democrats make up a majority of the House, holding 53 of the 99 seats.

U.S. Rep. John Tanner and Tennessee state Sen. Mark Norris and state Rep. Craig Fitzhugh are running unopposed in this year's election.

The office of Mayor and Alderman will also be determined for Newbern and Trimble.

With Dyer County's 22,100 registered voters and 9,532 having already early voted, it is conceivable that approximately 12,500 voters will take to the polls, on Tuesday, in Dyer County.

With a record breaking early voter turnout and an estimated 130 million voters in the United States to vote on Tuesday, this is an election year that is certain to go down in history.
