DIS fifth-grade teacher Teresa Craig was named 2008 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year by Dyersburg Wal-Mart manager Cathy Strawbridge at the school's first honors program. At Dyersburg Intermediate School's recent honors program, teacher Teresa Craig was named 2008 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for the Dyer County area.

The honor brings Craig a $100 Wal-Mart gift card and DIS a check for $1,000.

"I am proud to be here today," said Dyersburg Wal-Mart Manager Cathy Strawbridge. "DIS has been a part of our lives for as long as I can remember."

Craig, a 2007 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, is currently in her second year of teaching. She teaches fifth-grade reading and language arts.

"I am fortunate to be part of the DIS faculty where I can help make a difference in the lives of our children," said Craig.

The Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year program allows Craig to work with the DIS faculty to decide where the $1,000 is spent.

A $100 FOR TEACHER OF THE YEAR?...AND A GRAND FOR THE SCHOOL?...EVEN THE REWARDS OF AN AWARD IS UNDERPAID/UNDER APPRECIATED...

Ditto, ExPat...I also thought that was backwards.

Doesn't it seem like it would be better to give the teacher the $1000 and the school the $100? Let's reward good teachers directly--they've never made enough money for the work they do.
