CableOne: WBBJ will stay

Friday, January 2, 2009
Effective Jan. 1, 2009, CableOne we will no longer carry WPSD - NBC (Channel 6), and KFVS - CBS (Channel 12). There are a couple reasons for these changes; the most important is signal strength and duplication. CableOne will continue to carry other affiliates so customers will still be able to see broadcast primetime programming. With that said, CableOne and WBBJ (Channel 7) representatives continued negotiations and came to a mutual agreement for carriage. CableOne is happy to announce the continued carriage of WBBJ out of Jackson.

"The stations we are dropping are duplicates and have always been difficult to receive and had poorer picture quality," said Elvis Brown, general manager. "That's because they are transmitted a good distance from Dyersburg.

"We never like to remove channels; however, one benefit of this channel change is the expansion of our high-definition programming lineup in 2009," continued Brown. "On January l9th, we will be adding Animal Planet HD. Shortly after, we will be adding your FOX regional sports network in high definition and other HD programming. Both these networks have been highly requested by customers.

"It is CableOne's sincerest goal to provide our customers with the value and variety that they depend on us to deliver," said Brown. "CableOne has been a part of this community for well over two decades and has plans to be a part of it for years to come."

Headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz. and owned by The Washington Post Company, CableOne provides basic cable, high-speed Internet and phone service. CableOne operates 52 locations and serves 720,000 households in the United States.

if it's your most serious concern, you aren't very serious, are you? Offer just a local package at a reasonable price, you might stay in business. You cannot compete with your customer service lacking to such a degree.

Almost every morning we have trouble with the reception on Channel 5 (which seems to clear up as the day wears on)but until that happens, must switch to Channel 6 (Paducah)in order to see the picture. Since they are dropping Paducah, we will start calling to complain instead of changing channels. We also enjoyed Court TV in the past but they dropped that also.

I would like to know who would have wanted another Animal Planet channel? Glad to have been able to keep WBBJ. We still need other good channels.

I live with Charter in Union City and now all we have in Tennessee channels is WBBJ. We have WPSD channel 6 for NBC and KBSI channel 12 for CBS. Charter gives us the same excuse of making space for the larger bandwidth HDTV channels.

If you don't like CableOne then switch to DirecTV or Dish Network. They both have more channels, better quality, more HD channels, and their prices don't go up every other month.

I've called them numerous times to complain about the quality of some of the channels. The ones I was having the most trouble from were 9, 5, & 3. Now they'removing 6 & 12. Those are the channels they say that are poor quality. I'm switching to one of the satelite companies because when I can't watch 5 or 3, I switch to the ones they've removed. I just worry about changing internet services.

have internet via Cable One but not Cable TV. I moved last week and cableone charged me $30.00 to move the internet service. Direct TV did not chage for the move, in fact, they gave three free months of the movie channels. I am looking into switching to AT&T DSL service. Way to stay competitive cable one (not).

As long as the people of Dyersburg let cableone. dictate what they pay and watch ,they will do so. Time to switch and get what you want to see and pay. I am on Direct tv and for the same price get 127 channels of quality channels and excellant service.

Scotty is correct on getting free movies when you move. I too moved and didn't miss a day of viewing. Cableone is not the only choice.
