Mary Lucy Jones, 86, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

She was a retired bookkeeper for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Dyersburg and Basil Smith Insurance Co., a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ, Dyersburg Senior Citizens Club and Dyersburg Home Demonstration Club, and a former substitute teacher for the Dyersburg City School System.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Owen and Bro. Mason Harris officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Beasley and husband, Rodger, of Covington; a sister-in-law, Mildred Fowlkes of Dyersburg; and a nephew, Robert Stephen Fowlkes of Dyersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Jones Sr.; her son, William C. "Bill" Jones Jr.; her parents, Robert Arch Fowlkes Sr. and Pauline Larkin Fowlkes; and a brother, Robert Arch Fowlkes Jr.

Pallbearers will be Randy Golden, Justin Golden, Steven Beasley, Shane Jackson, Carl Schultz and Jimmy Lloyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ralph Reynolds, Neely Pritchett, Harry Hummer, Jim Neal, Wendell West, Eddie Ray, Steve Holt and Whitt Barton.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Parr Avenue Church of Christ.


Janice Kramas, 68, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at her residence.

She was a retired bookkeeper.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Curry Funeral Home with Chaplain Garrett Sweeney officiating.

The family will receive visitors at noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Kramas of Dyersburg; three sons, Russ Rothamer of Mosinee, Wis., Steve Rothamer of West Dundee, Ill., and Dave Rothamer of Tallahassee, Fla.; her mother, Ursula Cooper of Lees Summitt, Mo.; three sisters, Sue Surls of Blue Springs, Mo., Jean Hunt of Wheatfield, Ind., and Ruth Lundblad of Olathe, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Cooper; and a brother, Jim Cooper.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.


Jerry B. Martin, formerly of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009.

He was a graduate of Dyersburg High School and attended Memphis State University. He then entered the Air Force where he served as a first lieutenant eventually earning the rank of captain and becoming a navigation school instructor. Encouraged by a former professor, he then entered Vanderbilt University School of Law and was selected for the Vanderbilt Law Review. In 1960 he began the general practice of law in Memphis and continued representing his clients with his trademark style of engaging professionalism until just a few months before his death. He achieved Martindale-Hubbell's Pre-eminent Rating for attorneys. He was vice president of his college fraternity, elected president of his law school fraternity, president of the Memphis Junior Bar Association and president of the University Club.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. George's Episcopal Church in Germantown. Canale Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is from 2-3 p.m. in the parish hall.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carolyn Martin; a daughter, Lee Rantzow and husband, James, of Memphis; two sons, Jerry Martin Jr. and wife, Lou, of Memphis and Kevin Ogilby and wife, Kristine, of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, Jimmy Martin and wife, Karen, of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Martin, Jerry B. Martin, Louis Martin, James Rantzow, William Rantzow and Emily Ogilby; and two nephews, Paul and Douglas and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Ruth Martin; and a nephew, David.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to St. George's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 2425 Germantown Road, Germantown, TN 38138, or a charity of the donor's choice.


Cheyenne Elizabeth Joanie Watson died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Church Grove Cemetery in Newbern with the Rev. Clayton Mahan officiating.

The family will receive visitors at noon today at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Survivors include her father, Daniel Watson II of Dyersburg; a brother, Daniel Watson III of Dyersburg; and grandparents Joan Watson and Myrtle Leitherland, both of Dyersburg, Steve and Cheri Baxter and Dorothy Barham, all of Newbern, and Evelyn Smith of Brownsville.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jennifer Ann Baxter Watson; and grandparents Misty Spicklemier, Daniel Lloyd Watson, Jessie Leitherland and Elvis Barham.

Pallbearers will be John Henry and Chris Buckner.
