Wednesday brought unusually high winds to the region and across West Tennessee. High-wind warnings were given out to most of the area. Wind speeds were clocked as high as 52 mph in Dyersburg. Wind speeds in Paris, Tenn. were as high as 55 mph and 51 mph in Union City.
The winds caused power outages to Gibson EMC's customers due to trees and tree limbs weakened by the recent ice storm. At one time 600 customers around Ridgely, Madie and Mooring were without power due to wind damage to eight electrical poles on Highway 78. Scattered outages continued throughout the day, including 875 Gibson EMC customers along Highway 22 between Union City and Reelfoot Lake.
Around Dyersburg, the wind blew trees over and knocked limbs loose. At Troy and Parr a large tree blew over into the street and had to be cut up. Some businesses took their flags down to prevent damage. Houses and vehicles around the county also received damage. The winds subsided late Wednesday afternoon.

the dyersburg electric system deserves cudos in their efforts to keep trees trimmed all over the city. we had much less damage & loss of electrical power during the recent ice & wind storm than many of our friends and neighbors in the surrounding area. thank you!
I do agree that they do a good job but I am sure Dyersburg did not have near the ice the northern counties did.
