"This list of new projects represents hundreds of new jobs and, once completed, will give West Tennessee the long-term infrastructure improvements we need to succeed," said Fitzhugh.
Both representatives have been working closely with TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely in acquiring these projects and vowed to fight in keeping every project in the final version of the governor's budget.
"Our roads and bridges not only carry our commerce, but they carry our families and friends to and fro every day," said Barker. "These projects will ensure the safety of every family that drives over our local roads and bridges, and that peace of mind is priceless."

"Not only will these transportation projects help create or save tens of thousands of jobs for Tennesseans, the end result of this investment will be a more reliable transportation system," said Nicely. "This three-tiered program represents a responsible, balanced and community-based approach to transportation. Years of planning and study have gone into each of the projects funded for construction."
The proposed projects will require final authorization by the Tennessee Legislature with passage of Gov. Phil Bredesen's budget. Budget hearings are expected to continue through the next few weeks, before the final vote sometime in late May or early June.
