United Chrysler Dodge notified of possible closing

Thursday, May 14, 2009
On Thursday, United Chrysler Dodge of Dyersburg joined the list of 789 other Chrysler dealerships who may possibly close in the near future.

Chrysler LLC sent letters, by United Parcel Service, to all of their dealerships notifying them which ones they had chosen to remain in business or be closed.

The closings are a result of a motion before US Bankruptcy Court in New York citing low sales with too many stores competing with each other.

United Chrysler Dodge owner Charlie Dunn stated the letter he received said Chrysler has petitioned the bankruptcy court to allow them to terminate their United Chrysler Dodge dealer agreement and the court will notify Chrysler on June 9 of its decision.

"We won't know anything for sure until after June 9," said Dunn. "Just because they are proposing to do this, doesn't necessarily mean it will happen. Until we know for sure we'll continue to service our customers and sell vehicles."

Dunn said things will be business as usual until they get the final word and added they are still in the business of selling and servicing vehicles.

"Right now is the best time to buy a vehicle," said Dunn. "The warranties will still be guaranteed by the manufacturer and government."

The potential closings represent a quarter of the 3,200 dealerships Chrysler has.

Two other West Tennessee dealerships carrying Chrysler products are also slated for closing: Graves Pontiac-Chevrolet-Buick in Milan and Clay Dillahunty's Tri-City Motor Company in McKenzie.

United carries Chrysler, Dodge and Dodge truck vehicles.

Graves and Dillahunty's carry Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep vehicles.

There are fourteen other dealerships throughout Tennessee that are expected to close.

Wow Buck! That university education got you all the way to Dyersburg. Way to go! By the way did your university spell "goes" with an apostrophe?

Oh and I am not a republican either.

Buck I would Vote Again and AGAIN for Bush over the Socialist Obama. And it may seem Un-American But I would Rather see All American Car Companies FAIL than leverage my children s future to pay Unfair Union contracts that got these companies into this mess in the first place ALONG with not adapting to the times STILL making gas Guzzlers when Gas is over 3 bucks a Gallon? Plus Nissan just got D-Burg Citizens 50 jobs at NSK.....and the more successful they are the more Jobs come our way.

Buck please,

You can't blame this on a politcal party. What about good old American greed. Big corporate execs have all wanted more and taken more for a long time. Now, it's time to pay up. Last I recall, both major political parties have occupied seats in the house and senate. Though some of this could be just plain ignorance, I think most of it is just fat America wanting to get fatter.
