Ralph D. Porter, 77, of Newbern, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired glazier for Boothill Glass in Azusa, Calif., a member of Mount Tirzah Baptist Church and member of Local Union No. 636.

Local services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. There will also be services at Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary in Monrovia, Calif. on Wednesday, May 20. Burial will be in Live Oak Memorial Park in Monrovia, Calif.

The family will receive visitors at 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Schubert Porter of Newbern; a daughter, Patsy Jane Porter of Duarte, Calif.; a son, Ralph Desmond Porter of Monrovia, Calif.; four sisters, Mildred Emmert and husband, Eugene, of Riverside, Calif., Doris Cullins and husband, Al, of San Diego, Calif., Betty Sue Wyatt of North Wilkesboro, N.C. and Lena Handy of McGrady, N.C.; four brothers, Charles Porter and wife, Pat, of Macon, Ga., McCoy Porter and wife, Florence, of Gray, Ga., Van Porter of San Bernardino, Calif. and Wilmer George Porter and wife, Martha, of McGrady, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Alline Porter of Myerstown, Pa. and Barbara Porter of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Raymond Myers of High Point, N.C.; three granddaughters, Christie Ann Joines and husband, Scott, of Corona, Calif., Kimberly Jane Leisure of Monrovia, Calif. and Ashley Marie Robbertze of Duarte, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Sean Joines of Corona, Calif. and Emma Jane Palacious of Monrovia, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Lester and Vesta Souther Porter; a sister, Juanita Porter Myers; three brothers, Hoover C. Porter, Bradley Porter and the Rev. Leo Joseph Porter; and two brothers-in-law, Lemon Handy and Paul Wyatt.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Porter, Van Porter, Cliff Porter, John Leisure, Scott Joines and Gary Kyle.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Mount Tirzah Baptist Church, 1730 Tatumville Road, Newbern, TN 38059.
