Newbern man wanted for manufacturing bomb

The Newbern Police Department is currently searching for a man wanted for manufacturing an explosive device in his home in Newbern.

Jason Carl Roberts, 29, is wanted for the possession and manufacturing of an explosive device and for violation of an order of protection.

On Tuesday, Newbern police were contacted by Roberts' estranged wife saying he may have constructed an explosive device. She feared the device could possibly be used in an attempt on her life.

After Newbern Police located the device, they notified the Jackson Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The Jackson P.D. bomb unit arrived on the scene and dismantled the device and confirmed it was capable of being detonated and producing an explosion. ATF agents then gathered evidence for further lab testing.

The Newbern Police Department does have active warrants for Roberts' arrest. They have reason to believe he may be in Florida or en route from Florida to Tennessee.

If you have any information about Roberts, please contact the Newbern Police Department at 731-627-2571. Police advise the subject should be considered armed and dangerous and should only be approached only with extreme caution.

Perhaps, just perhaps, if divorce proceedings weren't so costly and complicated and laws were less prejudicial against males, married couples could separate with less bitterness. This bit of philosophical commentary may or may not apply in this particular instance, but it certainly deserves consideration by people who write our laws.

So, kellysandy set the facts straight. It clearly states that a device was found and that upon inspection it was an actual bomb. His wife was smart enough to call the cops and say hey the guys got a bomb. I don't have to know the guy to figure out he had a problem, the bomb let me know that fact. So please inform me of the other side of the story.

I just know...if I were going to blow someone up...the intended victim would know nothing of the sort....maybe this was a hobby of his that she knew about...and she was PO or something...which let to the phone call that got him in trouble....this is just crazy to me...I mean I seriously grew up with this dude....this is crazy....at the same time..he does look a little lost..lol.

For Kellysandy, this story is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. He isn't on vacation. His ex is on vacation...ex girlfriend...not wife. And he went there in HER car. He ran off. And he called in a bomb threat to the place where he was fired. So you can say this is all false if you want to, but I know for a fact that it's true. And if he wasn't a freaking lunatic he wouldn't be doing all this. So you can tell people it's false if you want to, but it's not. And when he goes to jail for it, you can keep telling people it's a lie, honey. You must be his new flavor of the week. His taste changes fast.

you must be on drugs as Jason do you share because your brain must be as fried as his. You only wish you knew half of the story. This man got fired from a great job. He has terrified his wife hopefully his ex wife soon to be. His daughters are very scared and terrified of him. The FBI needs to take his bomb that he made strap the bomb to his back and send him overseas and show the world that Americia has sucide bombers as well and guess what I'm sure that you would like to hold his hand as all of this is going on.

This guy is NUTS and I believe that enough people have been through enough heartache just by letting him live in society.

He was on vacation I do know that much! But he is crazy. If anyone does not want to believe that just remember his next big idea may be used on you. I however will stay as far away from Jason as possible he has lost his mind and should be locked up for a very long time!

I do know jason very well .He was on vacation with his girlfriend.When he got back he did turn himself in.No he was not running.For those of you know the whole story he does deserve what he has coming to him.So just face the facts and quit making excuses for him.

If a nice guy goes on the parking lot of his former workplace. Has a gun and is threating to kill his wife. Do you not think hes NUTS!

If a guy holds his wife at gun point and the Newbern police has had the gun for 2 months but dont press charges because not enough evidence Do you not think he's NUTS!

If an nice guy goes and breaks into his wifes house, after shes moved out and steals small things and tears up her suv DO YOU NOT THINK HES NUTS!

If a nice guy makes a BOMB with 15 pounds of gun powder with a wireless remote that can blow up a whole city block DO YOU NOT THINK HES NUTS.

I know Jason as well I have known him for along time he was a very nice and sweet man up until about 6 to 8 months ago. Since then I believe that you can agree with me HE HAS GONE NUTS!

HE NEEDS MENTAL HELP AND NEEDS IT BAD.

SO IF IM NUTS HE MUST BE BAD MENTALLY INSANE!!!!!

Yes my opinion this is the same man on the parking lot of the Sun factory.

Did anyone hear of his court hearing yesterday morning?

Was his bond set?

I heard that it was set for $100,000 but that is just hear say?\

Does anyone know if he is out on bond or not?
