Luther Weldon Doss, 89, of Friendship, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at his residence.
He was a farmer and a World War II Army combat veteran.
Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship Funeral Home with Bro. Novis Fisher officiating. Burial was in Sorrell's Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Lucille Smith Doss of Friendship; three daughters, Shirley Elizabeth Campbell of Reeves, Linda Gale Moise of Orlando, Fla. and Donnie Sevann Wheeler of Milan; two sons, George W. Doss of Friendship and Richard Lynn Doss of RoEllen; a brother, Thomas Doss of Dickson; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was born in Dyer County and preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Doss and Ellen Elizabeth Haynes Doss.
Pallbearers were Christopher Doss, Michael Doss, Rusty Doss, Michael Landry, Don Hawkins Jr. and Joseph D. Hawkins.
Bobbie Nell Smith, 62, of Newbern, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Newbern.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeffery Samples officiating. Burial will be in Methodist Cemetery in Newbern. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive visitors at noon Saturday at the church.
Survivors include two sisters, Connie McKennie and Robert Smith West, both of Apopka, Fla.; and two brothers, James H. Smith of Newbern and Sammie Smith of Dyersburg.
