Dyer County Mayor Richard Hill said Friday morning that he has received a letter of resignation.
Henson, who estimated that he'd been a commissioner for 27 years, is moving from his home on Highway 78 to Dyersburg. In doing so, he is leaving District D, which includes Millsfield and Bogota.
The County Commission will select a new representative for District D. Two commissioners represent each district, and Larry Maupin will continue serving in District D.
When a vacancy occurs, Hill said, the other commissioner from that district nominates a replacement. Then, the full commission votes on the nominee. Hill said it is possible that Maupin could nominate a replacement as early as June 29, when the full county commission meets at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the courthouse.
The appointee will serve until the next election in August 2010.
Maupin did not attend Friday's public hearing on the proposed 2009-10 budget and was not available for comment on Friday.
