County Commission to vote on budget Monday

Saturday, June 27, 2009
The Dyer County Commission is expected to vote on the 2009-2010 budget and set the property tax rate when it meets Monday night.

Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the circuit courtroom on the second floor of the Dyer County Courthouse.

The new budget goes into effect Wednesday.

The county proposes holding the property tax rate at $2.35 for every $100 of assessed property value. From that amount, 80.33 cents goes to the General Fund, 27.61 cents to Highway/Public Works, 97.07 cents to the General Purpose School Fund, 21.88 cents to School Transportation and 8.13 cents to General Debt Service.

In addition to approving the budget proposal and the tax rate, the commission will consider:

* A resolution approving the School Federal Projects Fund for 2009-2010.

* A resolution making appropriations to non-profit charitable organizations.

* A resolution authorizing application for the 2009-2010 Litter Grant.

* A resolution regarding the transfer of funds from Debt Service to General Fund.

* A resolution appointing a Title VI coordinator.

* A resolution regarding a Tennessee Department of Transportation proposal.

* An assortment of 2008-09 budget amendments, appropriations and department transfers.

Two additional county meetings are scheduled Monday.

The County Commission's Budget Committee is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. in the courthouse's lower-level conference room to consider end-of-the-budget-year amendments.

The Dyer County Alcohol and Beverage Committee is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. in the circuit courtroom. The committee will consider issuing a beer permit to Clyde Smith of Hill Top Market, 6256 Highway 104 East.
