Man dies from injuries after falling out of truck

Thursday, July 2, 2009
On Sunday, June 26, an accident occurred on Wheeler Street, which resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Dyersburg man.

The death was caused by the man falling out of the back of a pickup truck. According to the police report, a close relative of the man was driving the truck at a speed of approximately 30 miles per hour when he fell out of the back. He had been in an argument with a person walking down the street before the accident occurred.

A witness stated he fell out as the truck pulled away. He was transported to Dyersburg Regional Emergency Room and then to Memphis where he succumbed to his injuries. The death will be ruled as accidental and no charges will be pressed.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Dyersburg Police Department want to remind residents of the dangers of riding in the back of pickup trucks.

Sgt. Robert Moore of the THP advised against riding in the back of trucks in case there is a vehicle crash. Moore said children under the age of 12 couldn't ride in the back of a truck except in a parade. He also knew of a couple of instances where people had fallen out of a truck while moving mattresses and were killed, including one in Lake County.

"You need to be inside the cab, seat-belted in for maximum safety," said Moore.

Dyersburg Police Department spokesman Capt. Steve Isbell said it is not illegal to ride in the back of trucks in Dyersburg but recommended people ride in the cab instead.

"It's just not a safe practice to ride in the back of trucks," said Isbell.

How is it not illegal to ride in the back of the truck? If you ride in a private vehicle, it is a state law that you wear a seat belt.

^ That was exactly my thoughts. How is it not illegal yet it is illegal to ride w/o a seatbelt?

That makes no sense.

I thought it was illegal..I am surprised it's not. This is something I have seen A LOT of in Dyersburg lately. It seems like every time we go in to town we see several trucks with people riding in the back of them. I have also seen truck loads of kids in the back of them riding down lake road. That's just crazy!!!

It should be illegal! We get fined caught with out a seat belt on.

It doesn't tell who the person was..who was he?

My sympathy to the family of the deceased.

Does this mean that children can ride in the back of trucks without being belted in???? Come on...get the people out of the back of trucks!! This includes city vehicles too.

I suppose our state legislators have not been riding in the back of trucks enough to know that it is dangerous for adults. Maybe they assume adults should know better.

The trooper did say it was illegal for kids under 12 to do so.

BIZCUITZNGRAVY:

Irregardless of your personal opinions, a man died - have some respect for him and for his family.

AND A CLOSE RELATIVE ALSO WAS NOT THINKING, OR CONCERNED ABOUT THE PERSON IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK

BIZCUITZNGRAVY, you are a very ignorant and stupid person. You need to think before you start typing. It's very evident that you have not done this. You need to get a freaking life.

If anyone is stupid, then it must be YOU. You don't even have a clue as to what happened and how it happened. The least you could have done was to give respect to the family and in order for you to do that you would have to respect them which means keeping your ignorant comments to only yourself.

A young man lost his life regardless of how it happened. Can't you see that. I'm glad that I do not know you, because IF I did, I would not be very nice to you in person.

Have respect to the family and keep your STUPID and DUMB comments to ONLY yourself and no one else.

PEACE

To the State Gazette:

I would like to thank you for respecting the family and the people involved when you wrote this article. Some news needs to be written with respect and your staff did so in this article. I commend you for this.

To those of you who still wish to harp on the "who" "what" "why" or whatevers, then I say to you, go find something else to talk about. Put yourself in the place of people in the article.

Again, thank you State Gazette Staff.

Peace.

I am appauled by the level of inconsideration and ignorance that BIZCUITZNGRAVY has disrespected this individual and his family. Regardless of the conditions, this man had children, parents and those who loved him. I think it is safe to say that EVERYONE acts before thinking sometimes. In death, however, one should be respected. Obviously, there is no sence of empathy.....

Sympathy for the family --- my daughter was close to those whom this individual mattered.

IF YOU CAUSE YOUR OWN DEMISE BY ACTS OF IGNORANCE THEN THIS IS THE RESULT OF YOUR ACTION .THE MAN WAS 22 YEARS OLD SUPPOSED TO BE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER .I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR IGNORANT ACTS .STICK YOUR HEAD IN A LIONS MOUTH AND GET BIT ,YOUR OWN FAULT.HAD THIS BEEN A CHILD THE DRIVER WOULD AND SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PEOPLE IN THEIR VEHICLE .THIS IS CALLED THINKING ABOUT WHAT COULD AND WOULD HAPPEN .THIS IS WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT BLOGS YOU CAN COMMENT AND SAY WHAT YOU FEEL ABOUT THINGS AND MAYBE JUST MAYBE PEOPLE WILL THINK AND IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN .HAD THIS INDIVIDUAL BEEN SITTING DOWN HE WOULD NOT HAVE FALLEN OUT OF THE TRUCK NOW WOULD HE ?NO DISRESPECT TO THE FAMILY ,BUT I DID NOT CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN ,BUT MAYBE SOMEONE WILL READ AND SAY HEY SIT DOWN BACK THERE ,CAUSE I REMEMBER SOMWEONE WHO DIED BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T .

BIZCUITZNGRAVY, is it necessary to scream? Again I must say you are ignorant. You must have been the witness since you know so darn much! Believe me,I know more than you think that you know!

I refuse to waste my time on you. It's not even worth it. Just because this is a blog does not give you the right to disrepect and say whatever you like. Ignorant people don't listen to anyone else anyway. They always think that they know everything when they just repeat what they have heard.

No one wants your sympathy. You can keep your nasty, ugly sympathy. People do a lot of things that are offically against the law but they still do it and I'm sure you have a list of things you've done too.

Peace to you and again keep your ugly sympathy to yourself. No one wants it.

I DON'T GET GRADED SO DOESN'T MATTER NOT YELLING JUST BAD TYPING SKILLS .IF YOU KNOW MORE THAN THE PAPER DOES THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THIS BLOG LETS HEAR YOUR STORY ABOUT WHAT YOU SAW NOT WHAT SOMEONE ELSE SAID .THIS IS A REALISTIC WORLD NOT A SUGAR COATED ONE .DUDE MESSED UP ON HIS OWN WITH HELP FROM A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER .

IF SOMEONE READING THIS HAS PAID ATTENTION AND LEARNED FROM THIS TRAGIC MISTAKE.IF MY STATEMENTS MAKE YOU MAD ,THEN YOU WILL DWELL ON IT ,IF YOU DWELL ON IT ,YOU WILL REMEMBER ABOUT IT. IF YOU REMEMBER IT . YOU WILL THINK ABOUT IT .IF YOU DO THIS THEN MAYBE IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SOMEONE ELSE. SINCE MAN CREATED THE WHEEL ,MOVING OBJECTS HAVE CAUSED INJURY.IN 2 THOUSAND PLUS YEARS COMMON SENSE SHOULD TELL YOU NOT TO PUSH THE SCALES TO TEMPT FATE FURTHER .AGAIN NO DISRESPECT TO FAMILY .COMMON SENSE SEEMS TO HAVE LEFT THE PLANET.
