Alderman Lewis Norman (left) and his son, Kevin Norman (right), have placed American flags on Elm Street in Dyersburg. The Normans have been doing this tradition for the past nine years.

Alderman Lewis Norman and his son, Kevin Norman, are showing their patriotic spirit this Independence Day by displaying American flags at the entrance of all the driveways on Elm Street in Dyersburg. Each driveway has a flag sitting on both sides of it and some are on posts and along the street.

Both father and son live on Elm Street and have been carrying on this tradition for the last nine years.

"We weren't going to do it this year, but we decided to anyway," said Lewis Norman. "It shows our patriotism."

Lewis said he has collected the flags over the years from different sources, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

They estimate they have around 75 flags and wanted to do something for their favorite street.

Elm Street is one of Dyersburg's most unique streets with old brick pavings on the lower part of it.

Despite the theft of four of the flags, Norman said he believes he will continue with the tradition next year.
