DPD Capt Steve Isbell said at the time of the robbery Melton passed a note to a teller demanding money. It is not known at this time if he was armed or not. He then exited the bank with an undetermined amount of cash.

As officers were going to the scene they observed the suspect's vehicle, a 2000 Buick LeSabre, traveling south on Highway 51 Bypass at Upper Finley Road.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however Melton ignored them and continued south on the bypass. He turned left onto Hornbrook Street and began driving at a high rate of speed.

After wrecking the car, Melton led officers on a foot pursuit and was ultimately apprehended near Rawls and Finley Street.

Neither Melton nor the occupants of the house were reported to have any injuries.

Isbell said the car Melton was driving is reported stolen out of Pemiscot County in Missouri.

The cash believed to be involved in the robbery was also recovered.

Melton is scheduled to appear in Dyersburg City Court on Tuesday, July 7, at 4 p.m.
