Paul Barnett received permission to create the nine-lot Finley Estates subdivision on Highway 104 West near Black Locust Lane. Donny Bunton of the Local Planning Assistance Office in Jackson pointed out that the remaining 22.53 acres of Barnett's property will be landlocked, except for a gravel road named Locust Lane. The lots vary in size from 0.91 acres to 1.09 acres.
The planning commission also decided to recommend an amendment to the zoning regulations. The amendment will go to the Dyer County Commission for a public hearing and vote. The amendment reduces the minimum lot size required for schools from 5 acres to 2 acres for the first 50 students.
In its final bit of business, the planning commission approved the 2009-2010 annual program report and program design prepared by Bunton. The report outlines the issues the commission needs to tackle this year. For example, Bunton said, the county's comprehensive long-range planning document, which addresses the county's development and services, was completed 20 years ago and has not been updated since.
