Rebekah JoAnne Crittendon, 18, was born on August 14, 1990 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Mandel and Deidre nee Riley Crittendon. She died on August 10, 2009 at her home in Arlington Heights.

Ms. Crittendon was a 2008 graduate of Rolling Meadows/Vanguard High School.

Rebekah is survived by her parents, Deidre Crittendon of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Mandel Crittendon of Philadelphia, Mississippi; her sister, Diana (Shawn) Haggard of Baltimore, Maryland; her grandparents, Tommy and Ruth Rice and Royce and Jean Riley, her great-grandmother Evelyn Curtis, her aunt and uncles, Dion (Janet) Riley, Jason (Cace) Rice, Curtis "Lance" Hood and Mike Leyva.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Milton and JoAnn Crittendon.

Visitation will be Monday, August 17, 2009 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Services will be at 5 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Lynn Drumwright. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.


Herman Richard Johnson, 81, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Humboldt General Hospital.

He was a retired licensed practical nurse, a Baptist, an Army veteran (20 years active, 10 years reserve) two purple hearts, entered 1947-1967, staff sergeant, lifetime member of DAV, member of American Legion, Korean War veteran and an avid football watcher.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Klutts officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Johnson of Dyersburg; a daughter, Janet Johnson Dawson and husband, Dennis, of Newbern; two sons, James Richard Johnson of Dyersburg and Dwight David Johnson and wife, Debbie, of Woodland Mills; two sisters, Bethelene Call of Delano and Evalene "Tennie" Fetzer of Etowah; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jessie Johnson; and a brother, Clint A. Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Dawson, Macon Dawson, Zack Dawson, Rusty Dawson, Marc Johnson and Jerry Dunivant.


Thomas Kirk, 73, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his residence. He was a member of Three Oaks Baptist Church, who, in addition to enjoying fishing at Kentucky Lake, loved to barter at "swap-meets" with his friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Kirk will be held in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home Monday, August 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Bill Phipps officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Curry Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Benji Burton, Wesley Turnbo, Joey Junior, Shelby Junior, Anthony Sweat, and Morris Kirk.

He is survived by his wife, Martha "Sissy" Kirk of Lenox; five daughters, Charlotte Sweat and husband Jamie of Dyersburg, Gina Kirk Voyles of Friendship, Deborah Permenter of Jackson, Lisa Vestal and husband Duran of Dyersburg, and Melody McGuire and fiancÚ Matthew Ozment of Dyersburg; four sisters, Emma Jean Franks of Murray, KY, Mary Jane Booker of Dyersburg, Teresa Kirk of Linden, and Janice Kirk of Lenox; and three brothers, Quinton Riley of Dyersburg, Ernest Riley of Murray, KY, and Tony Kirk of Lenox. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Morris Edward Kirk; his son, Tommy Kirk, Jr.; one sister, Shelia Shawver; and three brothers, Hubert Riley, Paul Ed Kirk, and Morris Shelton Kirk.

Elvis Smith, 83, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Highlands of Dyersburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Dyer County on May 3, 1926 and lived here until he and his family moved to Chicago, IL. While in Chicago, he was employed by several factories as a laborer. He served a tour of duty in the United States Army.

Graveside services for Mr. Smith will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 at Fairview Cemetery with Brother Bobby Gamble officiating. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Elvis Smith was cared for by the staff of Highlands of Dyersburg Health and Rehabilitation until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josie Ann and Martin Smith; and, a half-brother, Leonard Johnson.
