Ridgely man sentenced to nine years for burglary, theft

In Dyer County Circuit Court on Aug. 18:

* Melissa Ann Brooks, 44, 72 Oak St. in Finley, pleaded guilty to violation of the implied consent law and her driver's license was revoked for a year. She was not prosecuted on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

* Melissa Rena Nichols, 35, 1134 Michael Lane, was not prosecuted on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

* Christopher Shawn Riley, 30, 2122 Starlight Drive, was not prosecuted on a charge of theft of property in excess of $1,000. He had been accused of taking nine iPods from Wal-Mart in 2007.

* Alexandra Shannon, address unavailable, was not prosecuted on a charge of attempting to obtain possession of a controlled substance by fraud.

* Harold P. Robertson, 52, 806 Brooks Ave., pleaded guilty to violating the motor vehicle habitual offender act and was sentenced to two years in prison as a multiple offender. He must serve at least 35 percent of his sentence before he may be considered for parole.

On Aug. 19, Jerry Lanier, 29, 1223 Hornbrook St., was not prosecuted on a charge of aggravated assault.

On Aug. 20, Derick DeWayne Davis, 41, of Charleston, Mo., was acquitted on a sexual battery charge.

On Aug. 21, Ryan Wade Mathis, 24, of 220 Lake St. in Ridgely, pleaded guilty to a number of burglary and theft charges. He received an effective nine-year sentence.

Mathis pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and theft of property in excess of $1,000 in connection with a November burglary on Holly Springs Cemetery Road. A 47-inch television, about 165 DVDs, video games, a camcorder, a safe and a rifle were reportedly taken. Mathis was sentenced to six years for the burglary and four years for the theft. He is to serve the sentences concurrently.

He pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and theft of property in excess of $10,000 after breaking into another Dyer County home in November and taking antique furniture, glassware, a shotgun, a rifle and other household goods. Mathis was sentenced to six-year sentences on each charge. He is to serve the sentences concurrently with each other and with the first two sentences.

Mathis pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft in excess of $10,000. He is accused of conspiring to steal three vehicles from Rick Hill Nissan in February. He was sentenced to three years in prison, serving that sentence consecutively to the first four sentences.

Mathis also pleaded guilty to additional charges of aggravated burglary and theft of property in excess of $1,000. He was accused of returning to the first house he'd burglarized and burglarizing it a second time in February. Again, he stole a TV, digital camera, DVDs, computer printer, laptop computer and more. He was sentenced to three-year sentences in each count. He is to serve these sentences concurrently with each other and with the conspiracy charge and consecutively with the first four sentences.
