Accused rapist among 80 grand jury indictments

Saturday, October 17, 2009
A 23-year-old man was indicted Monday for one of three rapes reported this summer in Dyersburg.

A Dyer County grand jury indicted Katius Williams, 630 E. Thomas, with aggravated burglary, aggravated rape and aggravated robbery. He is accused of entering a woman's home July 25, raping her at gunpoint and stealing $23.

A series of rapes in the southern and eastern portions of the city began in February. The Dyersburg Police Department warned the community about the rapes at the end of July.

The grand jury also handed down a second indictment for aggravated burglary and aggravated assault in connection with a home invasion, District Attorney Phil Bivens said. Williams is accused of entering the unlocked front door of an East Dyersburg home between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 1. Williams pointed a gun at the two women inside the house and told them not to move. One of the women said she screamed the whole time Williams was in the house, which was about five minutes.

Williams has been in the county jail since his arrest Aug. 2.
