Joe Phillip Dennison, 53, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Newbern, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 in San Diego, Calif.

He was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer and was employed as a guard for the State of California Department of Correction, a 1975 graduate of Dyer County High School and was an Eagle Scout.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Dennison Sumler of Lady's Island, S.C.; his mother, Frances Dennison of Newbern; two sisters, Janie Bard and Pam Simpson, both of Newbern; and a brother, Jerry Dennison of Newbern.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billie Joe Dennison; a brother, Joel Dennison; and his grandparents, Euble and Mary Dennison and Grady and Louise McClanahan.

James Robert McCoy Sr., 62, of Ridgely, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at his residence.

Born on Aug. 3, 1947, he was a retired John Deere Parts Manager for Ag Center and a member and deacon for Wynnburg Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Wynnburg Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Byassee and Bro. Charles Southerland officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret McCoy of Ridgely; two sons, Robert McCoy of Ridgely and Brad McCoy of Dyersburg; a sister, Paula Hanna of Dyersburg; a brother, William McCoy of Tiptonville; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Pearl Simmons McCoy; and a brother, Danny Wayne McCoy.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Flowers, Trent Patterson, Kent Patterson, William Hopkins, Randy Robertson and Brad Glass. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Marvin and Joe Boy Marvin.


Capt. Carlie Jennings Tubbs, 69, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

He was a retired riverboat captain for ADM River Transportation for 40 years and a member of Three Oaks Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Booth's Point on Mississippi River with Bro. Bill Phipps officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Tubbs of Dyersburg; a daughter, Gwen Livingston of Dyersburg; a son, Shawn Tubbs and wife, Wynne, of Jackson; two stepdaughters, Lisa Marie Shipley and husband, James, and Kelley Hollis and husband, Bubba, all of Newbern; a brother, Philip Tubbs and wife, Barbara, of Jackson; four grandchildren, Fletcher Livingston, Kelsey Tubbs, Caleb Tubbs and Noah Tubbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Q.B. and Gertrude Tubbs; and the mother of his children, Dardanella Little Tubbs.
