As the WWF's villainous Million Dollar Man, Dibiase strutted into some of the largest venues in the world to a song promoting his worth and declaring "Everyone Has a Price." He boldly took on competitors like Hulk Hogan, Brett Hart, Andre the Giant and Jake the Snake, while his image became a marketing tool used on everything from action figures to pinball machines.
This weekend, Dibiase will perform a grudge match against the devil as he wrestles with the hearts of area residents. His message? Every Man Has His Price - a price that was paid in full by Jesus Christ.
Dyersburg First pastor Steven Stoner met Dibiase at a pastor's conference in Phoenix, Ariz. early this year and was enchanted by the story of the retired pro wrestler's new passion, his Heart of David Ministry. He asked The Million Dollar Man if he would make a trip to Dyersburg and Dibiase quickly agreed.
Dibiase uses the tremendous popularity of pro wrestling and his own success as a superstar of the sport to bring a message to teenagers struggling with peer pressure; men struggling with power, success, sex, lust, pornography, drugs and alcoholism; and married couples at their rope's end who think divorce is the only answer.
Dibiase feels the platform God has given him is wide and diverse. Speaking candidly, Dibiase touches on difficult issues and uses the greatest example possible - his own experience.
Naming the toughest match of his life as his own personal struggle with God, Dibiase also challenges the lost that attend church regularly - those with religion but no relationship with Jesus.
The Million Dollar Man will bring his message to the Dyersburg community at two free events this week.
On Friday, Oct. 30, Dyersburg First will hold a Fifth Quarter in its gym from 10 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Students will be treated to a presentation by Dibiase, free pizza and give-a-ways including an iPod.
On Sunday, Nov. 1, Dibiase will bring the message at Dyersburg First's 10:30 a.m. service.
"We are really excited about him coming," said Stoner. "He still has his own action figure! It's a big deal for Dyersburg. Throughout the city, I've heard a lot about it. We are expecting to be packed that Sunday (and suggest people) get to the church early for a seat."
Though Dibiase will leave Dyersburg on Sunday afternoon, Stoner will tie up the message the next week, Sunday, Nov. 8, with a wrestling-themed sermon at the church's 10:30 a.m. service.
