City School Board elects officers

Friday, November 6, 2009
The Dyersburg City School Board had a busy evening on Monday, Nov. 2, with a joint school board meeting held at the Professional Development Center in Dyersburg.

During the joint session, members of both the Dyersburg City and Dyer County school boards received a pep talk from Tennessee Deputy Commissioner of Education Robert Greene and the Dyersburg City Board received the Energy Education Stewardship Award from Southern Division President Truman Atkins. After dinner, the groups divided into work sessions.

During the City School session, School Board representatives elected officers, celebrated student successes and appointed Larry Williams as a Discipline Hearing Board alternate.

Dr. Randy Prince and Amy Heckethorn were re-elected to the positions of chairman and vice-chair for the 2009-2010 school year, with former Secretary Nettie Thomas declining a nomination to fill the position again this school year. Sherrie McElrath was nominated and voted in to serve as secretary of the organization.

Student successes included Dyersburg Middle School Trojans of the Year sixth-graders Madison Caldwell, Jake Bradshaw, Chenelle Stokley, Carson Jones and Hunter Norman; seventh-graders Omar Torres, Kaila Battles, Scotty Stutts, Harris Murray and Catherine Moore; and eighth-graders Alecia Aufdenkamp, Nyiesha Nash, Jordan Simmons, Suzanne Schults and Deandre Ceasar.

Future meetings of the Dyersburg City School Board include attending the Tennessee School Board Association Conference Nov. 14-17, and the December meeting at 5:30 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 7, in the boardroom at Central Office.
