The quake registered a 3.4 on the Richter scale in the preliminary report. It was centered 4 miles north of Dyersburg just off Highway 78 at a depth of 6 miles.
The United States Geological Survey's community Internet intensity map shows reports of weak to light shaking in the area.
Emergency 911 Communications Director Mark Grant said there were no reports of damage in Dyer County. However, he did say there were a lot of calls from people wondering what was going on.
Grant also said this was the second earthquake in the region, which registered at least a 3.0, in the last 18 months.
