Dyersburg State Community College will present 'Tuesdays with Morrie' at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19 through Saturday, Nov. 21, in the First Citizens National Bank Auditorium in the Campus Activities Building on the Dyersburg campus. The play, based on Mitch Albom's best-selling book, is the story of 'an old man, a young man and life's greatest lesson.' Here, Mitch, played by DSCC student Chris McClain, listens to words of wisdom from Morrie, played by DSCC professor Bobby Solmon.

This fall, Dyersburg State Community College's theater department will present 'Tuesdays with Morrie', starring Chris McClain as sportswriter and author Mitch Albom and DSCC professor Bobby Solmon as his favorite college professor, Morrie Schwartz.

The play chronicles the relationship between Albom and Schwartz and the life lessons learned by Albom each week as he visits his mentor who struggles with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

"(The most challenging part about playing) Morrie Schwartz is showing the progression from the early start of ALS until the very end," said Solmon. "There are some very drastic changes from beginning to end. You see it in his body and his voice."

"(Portraying Mitch is) challenging because he is always in a rush," said McClain.

"And Chris is not," said Associate Professor of Speech and Theatre Meleia Lewis with a laugh. "Chris is very low-key."

"He's also a good musician and I'm not," said McClain. "And he puts himself before other people. He's very selfish."

Crew members include stage manager Devan Jacobi, assistant stage manager and props master Mark Brown, Tabetha Fournier on lights, Stephen Safaeih on sound and Lizzy Reaves on costumes. Backstage grips are Tina Fogarty and Anthony Gooch.

The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19 through Saturday, Nov. 21, in the First Citizens National Bank Auditorium in the Campus Activities Building on the Dyersburg campus. Tickets are available only at the door. Admission is $6, or $4 for students, faculty, staff and senior citizens.
