According to the State Department of Health, Jennifer G. Garrison, D.P.O. and Amy Jo Streeter, D.P.O., both of Dyersburg, "failed to properly maintain sufficient continuing education credits."
Both opticians were assessed a $100 civil penalty and must submit one continuing education credit to the state within 90 days.

Now this is really newsworthy, people must be bored!!
100.00 dollars,That will teach them a lesson!!!
where did they work ?
this is some poor Journalism. Did you talk to these ladies? No you did not. I think you better get your facts and then you owe them a retraction and an apology.
This is certainly news guys! It's not headline-grabbing stuff, but we always know what typ eof disciplinary action has been taken against local doctors, etc.
The author of this article should be ashamed of herself. You shouldn't write articles without trying to contact the involved parties. I am a fellow licensed optician and have worked with both opticians. They are both wonderful licensed opticians and TN is very blessed to have them. They both received there 8 continuing education hours. The missed CE hour was in the form of a self exam that was not even graded just an extra 1 education credit requirement newly started without any notice. This new recquirement was
missed by many as you reported above and both opticians paid there $100 fine and made up the required 1 hour. This definetly shouldn't have been in the newspaper as this had nothing to do with them either one putting any of their patient's at risk. You should have taken the time to contact them and find out the truth before hurting there good names and printing this false information in our local newspaper.
the truth came out and why hide it, if it is required of them and they didnt do it, maybe next time it would be more of not doing what is needed. If you do what is needed for the job then no questions are asked.
I have to agree this story is newsworthy, but I also have to agree the reporter at the paper made a grave error in not asking the other parties for their statement. That makes it slanderous, and is extremely bad journalism. It would be reason to be fired at most newspapers.
I admire the state gazette for their step-up in keeping the community informed in all areas, but when you skip one of the most important steps in the story, you aren't doing your job to begin with.
The actual story now is the damage you've done to their businesses by not letting them explain their actions.
