Community Thanksgiving Service set for Sunday evening

Friday, November 20, 2009
Members of churches throughout the area are invited to a Community Thanksgiving Service at 6 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The annual service, sponsored by the Dyer County Ministerial Association, will be hosted this year by Dyersburg First Assembly of God Church, located at 730 E. Court St., in Dyersburg.

"This is something the Dyer County Ministerial Alliance does every year," said Mike Wilson, pastor of City Gate in Dyersburg. "We rotate it around each year. This year, the service is being hosted by Dyersburg First Assembly of God. Our main purpose is just to bring the churches together just for an evening of worship and thanksgiving."

Sunday evening's service will feature representatives of many different denominations in the community.

"Worship is being led by a local worship band made by area musicians and we are excited by that," said Wilson, who said Brad Sanko, Hirche Schaffner, Darin Lightfoot and Adam Waite will make up the band. "And there is going to be a drama by the group, Unleashed. Jamie Parker from First Baptist Church is doing a special song and Stuart Edmonds of St. Joseph Street Church of Christ will be bringing the message."

The Alliance requests residents bring a canned good the night of the service. The food will be donated to a local food bank. A love offering for local food banks will also be taken.

"There is only one church in the city," said Wilson. "We have different flavors and assemblies of that church, but we are all Christians. We want to come together to worship together. It's going to be a great night."
