At the meeting, it is possible that board members may also take steps to appoint a replacement for alderman Shannon Walker, who tendered his resignation at the Dec. 7 city board meeting, effective immediately. Walker resigned because he moved to a residence outside of the city limits.
According to the City Charter, vacancies in the office of mayor or aldermen - whether occurring by death, resignation, removal or otherwise - may be appointed by a majority vote of the remaining members of the board.
Walker held the office of alderman-at-large. Therefore, the appointee chosen by the board to replace him is not limited to a specific district, but must reside within the corporate limits of the city.
At the Dec. 7 meeting, Walker recommended that board members consider appointing Jewell Horner to fill his remaining term. Horner finished second in the three-way race for Walker's seat on the board in the Nov. 8, 2006 election, earning 1,721 votes to Walker's 1,871. Former alderman James T. Lee, a 31-year veteran of the board, tallied 1,365 votes in that election.
The person appointed to fill Walker's position will serve on the board until the election in the fall of 2010.

If we wanted Horner or Lee we would voted for them ,sure dont need either of them in office. Get some new blood and younger people
It is only right that Jewell Horner get Walker's seat. She came in 2nd, she is qualified, and it's Walker's wish.
