* A cocaine charge against Natasha Akins, also known as Natasha Spain, 30, 1202 Ewell Ave., was dismissed with prejudice.
* Joseph Ray Bolden, 41, 408 E. Johnson in Newbern, pleaded guilty to forgery. His six-year sentence was immediately suspended and he was assigned to drug court. He will serve his sentence consecutively to several priors in Dyer and Crockett counties.
* Robert Paul Coleman, 29, 326 Bishop St., was not prosecuted on charges of violating the sexual offender registration act and violating the sexual offender residential restriction.
* Derek L. Ellison, 28, 172 W. Main in Alamo, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of facilitation of a sale of more than half a gram of cocaine. A related charge of possessing more than half a gram of cocaine with intent to sell was dismissed. He was sentenced to six months in the county jail, followed by two and a half years in a community corrections program.
* John A. Flagg, 34, 1015 Scott St., pleaded guilty to selling more than half a gram of cocaine. He was sentenced to a year in jail followed by seven years in a community corrections program.
* Howard Christopher Golden, 37, whose address was listed as the Colonial Inn, 1140 Hwy 51 Bypass, was not prosecuted on charges of promoting methamphetamine manufacture, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
* Joshua L. Haley, 24, 624 Stevens Ave., pleaded guilty to evading arrest and resisting arrest. On the first charge, he was sentenced to six months in jail followed by five months and 29 days of supervised probation. On the second charge, he received a concurrent six-month sentence.
* Carrie Ann Kobilka, 31, 911 Harrell Ave., was not prosecuted for vandalism less than $500.
* Christina C. Koon, 21, 315 S. Maccomb St. in Martin, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of assault. She was given a suspended 11-month, 29-day sentence and placed on unsupervised probation.
* Shaun C. Lindley, 30, address unavailable, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of aggravated sexual battery. He had originally been indicted with rape of a child. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, must register as a sex offender and must undergo evaluation and treatment counseling and community supervision for life.
* Eric J. Yandell, 49, address unavailable, pleaded guilty to assault. He had originally been indicted for sexual battery. He was sentenced to six months in the county jail.

Seems we're dealing with semantics here. Was a child raped or not? I know there are considerations about a child having to testify but doesn't the amended charge mean less time in jail?
Sure looks like a "Bail-Out" plan to me, just in time for Christmas!
