Mary Frances Atkins, 86, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Ripley Healthcare and Rehab.

Services were Saturday at Fowlkes Baptist Church with Bro. McKelley officiating. Burial was in South Fork Cemetery in Halls.

Survivors include a daughter, Milba Sutton of Ripley; a son, Ricky Atkins of Dyersburg; a sister, Iris Jones of Halls; two brothers, Eugene Wyrick of Dyersburg and Charles Wyrick of Halls; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milburn Atkins, and a son, Bobby Atkins.


Mr. Paul Lehman Carnell of Culleoka, TN passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at his residence. A native of Newbern, TN, Mr. Carnell was the son of the late Robert Carnell and Lora Mae Carnell. Two daughters, Rose Marie Carnell, Joyce Elaine Lusco, one brother, J. R. Carnell, one sister Lurline Lewellen and one granddaughter Jessica Good, and a special grandson Brandon Mockabee also preceded him in death.

Mr. Carnell was a welder and electrician and was a member of the Methodist church. He was a member of the international brotherhood of electrical workers (local 697) of Hammond, Indiana. Mr. Carnell was raised on a farm during the depression era. As a result he became an inventor by necessity. He enjoyed nature and he designed and made camping and boating equipment. In the early 1950's, he designed and later built the first telescoping travel trailer he named the tow low. Paul was a great father, loyal son, and dependable friend. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Lady Ruth Park Carnell, two sons Paul Lyndell Carnell of Chapel Hill, TN, Ronald Dale Carnell of Wanatah, Indiana, three daughters Shirley Darlene Carnell of Mt. Sterling, KY, Deborah Annette Evans and Jeanne Diane Good, both of Culleoka, TN.

Two brothers Edwin and Luther Carnell also survive of Newbern, TN along with seventeen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mr. Carnell will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Bills-McGaugh funeral home at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Friendship Cemetery at Culleoka. The visitation with the family will be Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and after 12 noon on Wednesday. Brother's Bob Rush and Aubrey Knois will officiate.

Helen Vernell "Nell" Pleasant, 87, of Dyersburg, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church at Chestnut Bluff.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bill Boyers, Bobbie Walden and the Rev. Ronnie Turner officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery at Bruceville.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Broglin, Janet Pleasant and Joan Lents, all of Dyersburg; two sons, Rodger Pleasant and Larry Pleasant, both of Dyersburg; two sisters, Linda Allen of Dyersburg and Helen Lowery of Greenfield; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Pleasant; her parents, George and Sarah Kent Watkins; three sisters, Lela Atchison, Aileen Davenport and Charlene Hodge; and six brothers, Charles Watkins, Dwite Watkins, Mickey Watkins, Billy Atchison, Clyde Watkins and Floyd Watkins.

Pallbearers will be Terry Lents, Jimmy Atchison, Charlie Burns, Cody Floyd, Allen Jordan, Mark Crews, Jesse Orchard, Chad Burns, Monty McWilliams, Eddie Maness and Danny Mansfield.


Juanita Sturdivant Webb, 82, of Trimble, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

She was a retired restaurant employee.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pierce Cemetery in Trimble with the Rev. John "Buck" Carroll officiating. Johnson-Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Faye Bishop of Trimble; seven sons, William Franklin Sturdivant of Tifton, Ga., Bobby Joe Sturdivant of Millington, Edward Earl Sturdivant of Rutherford, Elvis Ray Sturdivant of Trimble, Frazier Sturdivant of Trenton, Johnny Ray Sturdivant of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Terry Lynn Sturdivant of Sharon; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, B.F. Sturdivant and J.C. Webb; and her parents, Bill and Flossie Brewer Halford.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Katherine Wiggins, 86, Tiptonville, TN died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Health Care in Union City. She was a member of Tiptonville First Baptist Church and retired from H.I.S. Garment Factory.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Calvary Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Sutherland officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, TN. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 01, 2010 at the church.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Poyner of Ridgely, TN, 3 grandchildren, James Poyner, Timothy Poyner and Joye Warren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Wiggins, 1 daughter, Linda Jones, her parents, Marshall and Laura Busby Keith and several brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Corey Poyner, Bruce Poyner, Edmund Wiggins, Goble Wiggins, Jr., Mike Wiggins and Bobby Wiggins.
