Richard E. Herrmann, 70, of Martin, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at his residence.

He was an educator at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin for 17 years and an educator at Dyersburg State Community College for 13 years. He had an undergraduate degree from Centenary College in Shreveport, La., a divinity degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and a Ph.D from Emory University of Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and retired from Tennessee Conference of United Methodist Ministers.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Cooper officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery in Martin.

The family will receive visitors at 5:30-7 p.m. today at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin and at 12 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Herrmann of Martin; two brothers, Michael Herrmann of Houston, Texas and Donald Herrmann of Fort Worth, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Jim Crocker of Martin.

The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, or United Methodist Committee on Relief, P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY 10087-9068.

Sandra S. Hurst, 63, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Dyersburg, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at her residence.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Covenant Fellowship United Pentecostal Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Leroy McCall, the Rev. Brent Rashall and Terry Bell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Hurst of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Brian Hurst and wife, Angela, of San Antonio, Texas; six sisters, Rebekah Hopper and Macree Twilla, both of Dyersburg, Jean King and Christine Bell, both of Henderson, Ernestine Muth and Dorothy Hendrix, both of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Robert Graves of Jackson; and three grandchildren, Tyler Hurst, Trey Hurst and Briley Hurst, all of San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Cone and Mary Grady Graves; and a brother, Bobby Cone.

Pallbearers will be Eric Bell, Ricky Perry, Michael Viar, Terry Bell, Jeff Branham and Jerry Biggers..
