Funeral services for Hershel Elmer Bivens, 95, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Myrick and Rev. Ben Stillwell-Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery.
Mr. Bivens, fondly known as Mr. Elmer or Mr. B., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey, Tenn.
He was born in Hardin County, Tenn., the son of the late Dudley and Anna Newman Bivens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thalia Pugh Bivens.
In 1943, he and his wife moved to Friendship and began a series of businesses that evolved to being asked to sit on the Boards of many local, state and national Telecommunication Associations. He served as Mayor of Friendship and Chairman of the Board of Education for Crockett County. He has always been active and supportive in the Friendship United Methodist Church and served as both Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Bivens is most proud of his three children and his professional accomplishments.
He leaves two sons, Herbert R. Bivens (Rena) of Crossville, Thomas E. Bivens (Donna) of Medina; one daughter, Anneta B. Deal (Allen) of Crossville; one sister, Sue La Muska of Jackson; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Friendship Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, Friendship, TN.
Gloria Boswell Harris, 57, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.
Interment will be in Ridgley, Tenn. at a later date. Cremation services are under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris was born on April 30, 1952, in Ridgley, the daughter of Thomas and Helen Boswell.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Henry Harris of Mount Pleasant; a son, Henry "Hank" Harris III of Mount Pleasant; and a grandson, Matthew Harris of Plano.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Thomas Kennon Harris.

Christine Seat Motley, 88, of Newbern, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at Dyer Nursing Home.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Church Grove Cemetery in Newbern with the Rev. Larry McGarrity officiating.
The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley O'Dell of Rutherford; a son, Dwight Seat of Newbern; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sam Seat and Leroy Motley; a son, Clifford B. Seat; and her parents, Andy and Cora Brackett Cryer.
Carol Monica Webb, 72, of Newbern, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at her residence.
She was a retired U.S. government employee.
Johnson-Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Webb of Newbern; a grandson, Jake Dalton Walker of Newbern; nieces, nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Durward Webb; her parents, Alexander and Josephine Kruzel Lewakowski; and a brother, Richard Lewis.
